Conficker Computer Virus Infection-Checking "Eye Chart"

You've probably read about it in the news lately, the Conficker Virus, the Interweb's current maybe-maybe-not theat-d'jour. Regardless of it's effectiveness, it sounds like a nasty infection: challenging to identify (it comes in three flavors), powerful, and potentially prevalent.

There are many good antivirus programs available online, both for a fee and for free that can scan your entire system looking for innumerable viral infections and remove them permanently. But, such a scan can take hours, sometimes days.

Thankfully, there is another way to check if you're infected.

Whether you're protected by an antivirus program or not, this simple Eye Chart is a quick, visual way to determine if your PC is infected with the Conficker Virus. It works because the virus, when present on your computer or network, apparently blocks the domains of many popular antivirus programs. If you can't see the logos on the Eye Chart, it probably means you are infected. If you can see them all, you're probably clean. Simple.

Experts seem to think, "this detection method should be more reliable than network scanning-based tests." In addition to the Eye Chart, there are other quick ways to check if you're infected. [via]
